SETTING UP YOUR E-MAIL CLIENT TO FILTER SPAM

All incoming e-mail arriving at our server is processed by "SpamAssassin". This is an "opt-in" anti-spam solution. With this service, we are only marking the headers of potential spam and leave it up to you to decide how you want to filter it. We recommend that you set up your e-mail client to move the messages that have been marked by "SpamAssassin" to a junk mail folder which you can review periodically if needed.

In order to take advantage of this service to filter spam, you need to follow these configuration steps in your e-mail client.

Choose your e-mail client from the list below:

Mozilla Thunderbird

  1. Click on "Tools" and choose "Junk Mail Controls"
  2. Check the box, "Do not mark if sender is in Personal Address Book"
  3. Check the box, "Trust junk mail headers set by SpamAssassin"
  4. Check the box, "Move incoming messages determined to be junk to" and select "Junk folder on <your account name>"
  5. Optionally, check "Automatically delete junk messages after xx days"

Spam messages will now automatically be sent to the "Junk" folder within Thunderbird. These options are a guideline. Feel free to modify them to suit your personal preferences.

Microsoft Outlook 2003

  1. Click on "Tools" and choose "Rules and Alerts"
  2. Click on "New Rule"
  3. Choose "Start from a blank rule"
  4. Select "Check messages when they arrive" and click next
  5. Under "Step 1: Select Condition", check "with specific words in the message header"
  6. In the lower "Step 2" box, click on the "specific words" link
  7. In the "specify a word or phrase to search for" box, type "X-Spam-Flag: YES" (without the quotes) and click "Add", then click "OK"
  8. Click "Next"
  9. Check "move it to a specified folder"
  10. In the lower "Step 2" box, click on the "specified folder" link
  11. Select the "Junk E-mail" Folder and click "OK"
  12. Click "Finish"

Spam messages will now automatically be sent to the "Junk E-mail" folder within Outlook. These options are a guideline. Feel free to modify them to suit your personal preferences.

Microsoft Outlook Express

Unfortunately, Outlook Express does not support advanced message rules which will allow you to take advantage of this service. We highly recommend that you upgrade to Thunderbird for e-mail. The Thunderbird setup program will import your Outlook Express contacts and e-mail.
